September, 2024: Alice was one of four writers from Dorset working to create a complete mini-script each, honed in an afternoon as part of this first rapid write event from regional writing festival The Script’s the Thing in partnership with Poole, Lighthouse Centre for the Arts.
Writers Ali Sparkes, Gavin Egan, Tom Pagett and Alice met at 12 midday and created scenes for that evening, performed by local actors and directed by The Script’s the Thing festival director, Ed Viney.
Alice created a comedy drama that included the following prompts chosen at random on the day: Oral-B Essentialfloss and three words: Badger, Pedestrian, Olympics.
The result was an unexpected surreal piece that touched upon notions of regret, life and death. With some illegal activity and finger-picking banjo thrown in for good measure.
