In 2023 Alice began teaching creative writing for the Short Courses programme at Arts University Bournemouth on the Stage One course, in 2024 Alice led the Stage Two course.

Alice delivered dynamic, practical and enjoyable sessions exploring fiction, poetry and playwriting.

The sessions were designed to support the development of participants’ skills progressively over ten weeks. This began with the nuts and bolts of word choice and language use, moving onto character creation, plot structures, dialogue, pacing, narrative viewpoint and the author’s voice.

Stage Two built upon Stage One, with a focus on fiction writing. Sessions were created to support each participant’s particular creative goals and aims, whilst also offering practices that enhanced skills, expanded creative range and further developed participants creative and industry knowledge.

As ever, Alice held a safe and encouraging space, facilitating with playfulness and preparedness, creating sessions that were both accessible and challenging, informative, highly practical and fun.

Participant feedback:

“Thank you for such a wonderful course. As well as everything we learned about the craft of writing, we all had such a lot of fun with you. We haven’t stopped since the course finished. It’s thanks to you, Alice, and your great teaching that we are all moving forwards with our writing [and] we have made good friendships.”

Tracy Byrant, Stage One and Stage Two Creative Writing Course Participant.
