Alice designed and delivered a ten-week programme of creative writing sessions for residents of Edward May Court, supported by SNG (Sovereign Network Group).
Over the course of ten weekly sessions, residents met with Alice to explore different aspects of creative writing. Each session focussed on a particular practice and writing skill, such as the use of metaphor and simile in poetry, how to heighten the dramatic tension of a story and how to use the senses to depict a vivid character.
The sessions were also guided by the memories, talents and interests of the participants. During the project many cups of tea, much laughter and a few tears and tender moments were shared – as well as all the wonderful creative writing which was then printed as a booklet for all to enjoy.
The programme culminated in a community celebration in Kinson, with tea and cake and residents reading their work created during the programme and sharing the booklet, titled by the writers themselves as ‘Talents We Didn’t Know We Had’.
Thank you to those who made this project possible: SNG (Sovereign Network Group) and writing development agency ArtfulScribe.
