Micro-Commission for OperaUpClose and ArtfulScribe:
Alice was one of five writers and spoken word artists to develop a micro-commission in new and refreshing ways working with award-winning touring opera company OperaUpClose and not-for-profit writing agency ArtfulScribe.
The writers joined the Research & Development for OperaUpClose’s radically reimagined version of Puccini’s comic opera, Gianni Schicchi (with a new alternative title Where There’s A Will), in November 2024 at MAST Mayflower Studios.
At the end of their time in the R & D space, the writers responded to the rehearsal process, writing a piece they each performed live in an Opera Slam that evening at MAST, and then again adapting the work to incorporate audience prompts and to improvise its performance in collaboration with an opera singer and musician from the Where There’s A Will cast.
